Prop 1B Funds Going To Interstate 215 and 15 Freeways

Phelan CA– If you drive down the hill to work and use the 15 and 215 freeways, there is good news for you, except you will have to wait. Although improvements are planned for this interchange, things like this take time. Like any other road project, there may be delays during construction but in the long run it should pay off.

David Zook, Representative for First District Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt’s office, tells Best Syndication that the California Transportation Commission (CTC) approved the allocation of $239 million in Prop 1B Transportation Corridor Improvement Fund (TCIF) for projects within the county. Our supervisor was in Sacramento on Thursday for the announcement.

There are $3.5 billion in Proposition 1B bond fund projects being planned throughout the state. California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger said Thursday “The CTC has done a great job in getting this money out so we can rebuild our state and boost our economy just like our voters expected and deserved when they passed our infrastructure bonds in 2006.”

The governor’s office says $394 million are planned for 106 transit projects around California. The proposition, which was placed on the ballot by legislators, allowed for the sale of $19.9 billion in general obligation bonds. It passed in November of 2006 with 61.2% California voters saying “yes”. It will cost taxpayer approximately $38.9 billion over 30 years to repay bonds.

The money will also help move freight around the county, according to San Bernardino Board of Supervisors Chairman Paul Biane. “This funding will allow us to move forward with major transportation projects that will provide significant congestion relief for commuters, communities, and the freight movement businesses that are key to our county’s economy.”
